June 16, 2015 - Montreal, Canada — Ultra Electronics, TCS demonstrated long range on-the-move video and multi-party conferencing at high speed during a ship-to-shore/ship-to-ship exercise.
During the recent exercise in Asia-Pacific, Ultra ORION high-capacity point-to-point and point-to-multipoint radios connected remote land-based headquarters to an on-the-move Rigid-Hulled Inflatable Boat (RHIB) at sea. Real-time on-the-move video coming from the RHIB, shore-based Electro-Optical/Infra-Red (EO/IR) camera video feeds of the area of operations, VHF Combat Net Radio (CNR) voice communications and high definition multi-party video conferencing were delivered with outstanding quality across the ORION long distance high-capacity network.
Paul Zweers, Vice-President, Ultra Electronics, TCS commented; “This demonstration shows the versatility and flexibility unique to the ORION radio. Our high-capacity networks guarantee the delivery of mission critical data, for any type of operation’’.
The Ultra ORION family of Multiple Input, Multiple Output (MIMO) software-defined radio solutions can fulfill multiple roles such as backhaul repeater, range extension node, aggregation/ distribution point, WLAN and a remote station for point-to-multipoint access at the network's edge. It is designed to enable reliable high-capacity communications for land, sea and air operations with over 50 different tactical modes including Line-of-Sight (LOS) and Non-Line of Sight (NLOS), and is interoperable with thousands of previously fielded HCLOS radios around the world.
