February 10, 2015 - Montreal, Canada— Ultra Electronics, TCS is pleased to announce that Canada has procured Ultra’s new Maritime Multi-Mission Radio (MMR). Based on the latest Software-Defined Radio (SDR) technology, the MMR was selected by Public Works & Government Services Canada (PWGSC) in the latest round of the Build in Canada Innovation Program (BCIP). It offers up to three independent radio channels and is the first tactical radio to leverage high performance 4G technologies for naval applications. The unique “network-in-a-box” ability to simultaneously operate in several frequency bands and several network topologies dramatically increases the MMR’s mission versatility.
Iwan Jemczyk, President, Ultra Electronics TCS, commented: “We are very proud to support our Canadian Forces with new radio technology developed in Montreal. This new technology will dramatically change maritime security operations by supporting mobile, video-capable overwater radio links.”
The MMR provides robust mobile overwater links at high data rates, overcoming the limitations of low data rate HF/VHF links and cost-prohibitive, bandwidth-limited satellite links. As such, it offers enhanced command, control and situational awareness to navies and security forces, increasing their effectiveness in the face of today’s complex security threats and in supporting disaster recovery missions.
