Ultra Electronics, TCS Receives Order from Asian-Pacific Country for Ultra ORION Radios

September 17, 2015 - Montreal, Canada — Ultra Electronics, TCS has received an order from a customer in Asia-Pacific for its Ultra ORION radios.

The award includes the newly released high-capacity vehicular radio, the Ultra ORION X505-V, along with Ultra’s revolutionary mesh waveform, the UNW. Also included is the multi-mission mast-mounted variant, the X500-G. This family of multichannel compact radios will allow the customer to access critical information where and when it is needed, down to the lowest echelons. The communication solution will provide broadband data exchange for at-the-quick-halt and on-the-move operations.

“This is a key award for our business, supporting the launch of our new broadband vehicle radio, while solidifying the position of the whole Ultra ORION radio family as a diversified solution for customers across the globe”, said Iwan Jemczyk, President, Ultra Electronics TCS.

The Ultra ORION family of software-defined radio solutions can fulfill multiple roles such as backhaul repeater, range extension node, aggregation/distribution point, WLAN, mesh node and remote station for point-to-multipoint access at the network's edge. It is designed to enable reliable high-capacity communications for land, sea and air operations with over 50 different tactical modes including Line-of-Sight (LOS), Non-Line of Sight (NLOS) and interoperability with thousands of previously fielded HCLOS radios around the world.

Given the increasingly high expeditionary nature of today’s deployments, warfighters require continuous access to critical data under all mission circumstances. UNW provides the solution through end-to-end connectivity across multi-tier networks, whilst delivering unrivaled on-the-move high-capacity communications. UNW is powered by Ultra’s Tactical MIMO Engine (TME), a unique implementation of MIMO techniques, making it the fastest adaptive and most robust Non-Line-of-Sight (NLOS) mesh waveform. UNW can scale from division to the soldier level, eliminating the need for multiple non-interoperable networking waveforms.
