October 17, 2016 - Montreal, Canada— Ultra Electronics TCS in partnership with its Emergency and Tactical Wireless Communications NSERC Research Chair at École de Technologie Supérieure (ETS) and Institut des Sciences de la Mer (ISMER) at Université du Québec at Rimouski (UQAR) successfully completed intensive long range Maritime tests.
The propagation measurements were carried out between September 30th and October 6th, 2016 over a 50 nautical miles (nm) (92 km) section of the St. Lawrence River estuary between Tadoussac and Rimouski, Quebec, Canada. All test links were established with the Ultra ORION X500 and X510 multi-mission military radios. Test platforms included the Coriolis II 47 m (154 ft.) long research vessel and two test vehicles with adjustable mast heights. Mobility links of up to 35.7 nm (66.1 km) were established and measured link performance and observed ducting occurrences were compared to the Ultra TCS Ray Tracing predictions to validate models and accurately predict and explain overwater link performance for various ducting conditions below 6GHz.
Ultra ORION is a family of multichannel, multiband, point-to-point (PTP), point-to-multipoint (PMP) and mesh radio systems. These multi-mission radios provide robust broadband maritime communications for use in maritime interdiction, force protection, amphibious operations and coastal surveillance. Based on a software-defined radio platform, Ultra ORION maximizes flexibility to support various missions while reducing training costs and supporting logistics.
This work was also supported in part by the Natural Science and Engineering Research Council of Canada and Prompt-Quebec.
