September 8 2015 - Montreal, Canada — Ultra Electronics, TCS has been awarded a contract to provide Ultra ORION radios in support of the army trunk communications system for a Middle East customer.
Part of the ORION family, the X500-G tri-channel radio provides high-capacity backhaul for air defense and tactical networks interconnecting C4ISR elements. It can operate simultaneously in multiple bands (NATO full band 3/3+/4 and ISM 2.4/5.8 GHz), offers a large portfolio of waveforms, best-in-class ECCM protection and jamming resilience.
Iwan Jemczyk, President, Ultra Electronics TCS, commented: “We are proud to provide our latest generation of Software-Defined Radio (SDR) to this long- time Ultra customer. The ORION solution will complement and be interoperable with previously fielded HCLOS radios provided during the previous phases of this program.”
The Ultra ORION family of software-defined radio solutions can fulfill multiple roles such as backhaul repeater, range extension node, aggregation/ distribution point, WLAN and a remote station for point-to-multipoint access at the network's edge. It is designed to enable reliable high-capacity communications for land, sea and air operations with over 50 different tactical modes including Line-of-Sight (LOS), Non Line-of-Sight (NLOS) and interoperability with thousands of HCLOS radios fielded across the world.
